About
Neon Ash is a cyberpunk film-noir web serial set in Vesper Reach — a rain-locked megacity of corporate wellness implants, undercut labor docks, and truths that only survive as static.
Follow burned investigator Cass Vale through Season 1’s eight episodes as a drowned courier’s singing implant pulls her into Helix Meridian’s soft-spoken cover-up. New episodes drop Saturdays. Undercut Interludes appear every two weeks on Wednesday — side streets and secondary characters in the same rain. No heroes — only people still breathing.
Genre: cyberpunk noir. Voice: close third, short paragraphs, concrete sensory detail. Morality stays gray on purpose.
Neon Ash is written by a small team of people and AI, working the same rain-soaked beat side by side.
For writers
Writing your own serial?
If you're drafting a long serial of your own, Scrivener (affiliate link) is worth a look. It lets you break a book into scenes and chapters you can drag around, plan on a corkboard of index cards, keep research and character notes inside the same project, set word-count targets, take snapshots before big rewrites, and compile the whole thing out to Word, PDF, or ePub when you're ready. It runs on Mac, Windows, and iOS, and there's a free trial, so you can see if it fits how you work before buying.
Disclosure: this is an affiliate link. If you buy Scrivener through it, Neon Ash earns a commission at no extra cost to you.
How the serial is organized
Neon Ash comes in three kinds of chapter, all listed in reading order on the archive:
- Episodes (Saturdays) carry the main case: Cass Vale, a drowned courier named Kade, and the cream-on-cream Helix tickets that keep turning up. Each is about 2,000 to 2,500 words, ends complete, and hooks into the next.
- Undercut Interludes (every second Wednesday) are shorter and mostly comic. They follow side characters in the same rain: rookie officer Pip Harrow, Null Saint patcher Nix, noodle-cart owner Auntie Vee, Ashline Docker Sparks Mendez, and a misdelivered Helix drone called Polite. They never move the main mystery forward, so you can read them in any order.
- Reach Files (the first Sunday of each month) are in-world field guides to how the city works: transit, the grate economy, factions, slang. They're texture, not plot. Start with Reach File 01.
Every episode and interlude on this site ends with a Case File: companion notes on what changed, a glossary, and character notes, written for this site only. Season 1 runs eight episodes. Season 2 is planned.
Where else you can read it
neon-ash.com is the original home of the serial, and chapters appear here first. Some episodes are also mirrored on Royal Road for readers who prefer that platform. The Case File notes, Reach Files, media and the playable Undercut Night vignette are only on this site. Episode drops and stills are posted on @NeonAshSerial.
